Finished Sleeping Giants, by Sylvain Neuvel
This was an interesting book that I'm not wholly sure I enjoyed fully. The prose kept me going at a pretty fever pitch pace, wanting to find out what happened next but the book ends without a whole lot happening. Its apparent you need to read the trilogy to get the entire story.
Started The Magicians, by Lev Grossman
I liked the show on SyFy and decided to check out the book. 37% into it and I'm really enjoying it. I'm surprised at how faithful the show had been. They took some liberties as most shows do, but they stayed pretty true to the source. Fun book so far.

I finished The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, by Becky Chambers. As close as a hug a book will ever get.
My next book will be Sleeping Giants, by Sylvain Neuvel. I’ve read some mixed reviews of this book, but hopefully I’ll be among those who like it!

I finished Sleeping Giants, by Sylvain Neuvel. I didn’t like the interview format, the great premise was kind of ruined by it.
Started Leviathan Wakes, by James S. A. Corey, the first book in the Expanse series. I’ve seen two seasons of the tv series, and so far the series has followed the book pretty well. The book (as usual) gives more depth though, especially when describing the effects of travelling in high g.

I finished Sleeping Giants, by Sylvain Neuvel yesterday, and I immediately picked up Waking Gods, by Sylvain Neuvel after that. This series hits a few notes. My friends loved giant robots while growing up, but I think I like anonymous spook agency characters a la X-Files style more.

Just finished: Sleeping Giants, by Sylvain Neuvel, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Looking forward to picking up the sequels.
Now I'm trying to decide whether I want to keep picking my way through The Devil's Highway, by Luis Alberto Urrea, or start Akata Witch, by Nnedi Okorafor. I really liked the Binti novellas she wrote, but I'm also trying add a bit more nonfiction to my overall book consumption...

Just finished Sleeping Giants, by Sylvain Neuvel. Normally I do not dig interview style books, but he pulled it off well. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
I just started Invisible Planets, by multiple authors. It is a collection of Chinese science fiction short stories translated by Ken Liu.

I finished:
The History of Bees, by Maja Lunde
Sleeping Giants, by Sylvain Neuvel
THoB was ok - a good premise and I love a multi-character arc/alternate chronology story but this just never took off the ground. I wanted to care about the characters but they stayed flat throughout the book. Creative ideas though.
I enjoyed SG quite a bit - the writing style is very different (composed entirely of interviews) and I enjoyed the moral exploration it traversed while never falling for too many standard tropes.
I started:
The Gate to Women's Country, by Sheri S. Tepper

I finished reading Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel, and I gotta say, I was completely underwhelmed by that book. I think I saw it show up on a goodreads list somewhere, and then the concept seemed interesting. When it was hailed “a book like the Martian” I thought I was in for something good, but that was the sloggiest slog of a book I’ve read in a long time.
Maybe I missed something? Or maybe it just wasn’t for me. I’ve heard the series doesn’t improve greatly, so I’m gonna tap out for now.
I don’t know what my next one will be.
